Blackmill Games and M2H today released a new video from Isonzo, an FPS set in the trenches of World War I.

The video is very interesting because it compares the game’s two environments, particularly the Baruzzi railway underpass and the Mount Sabotino trenches, to modern real-world environments.

You can check out both videos below.

The game launches summer 2022 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and Xbox One.

Below you can read how the developer officially describes the game.

Alpine Battles on the Italian Front

Isonzo takes place on the southern front of World War I, immersing players in a massive clash between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Inspired by the two-year struggle for the river Isonzo, Isonzo will see players deployed on new WW1 battlefields that are beautiful but equally deadly. The battle takes place between the beautiful peaks, rugged valleys and idyllic villages of northern Italy. The new Offensive game mode puts players in the midst of a major historical offensive on the Italian front, from battles in the highlands of the Alps to fierce battles for the River Isonzo.

What’s New in the WW1 Game Series

Developer and M2H co-founder Matt Hergaarden said: Isonzo’s Alpine Wars brings a lot of fresh game mechanics to the series, with an all-new Italian army versus Austria-Hungary. We look forward to sharing more of our work. There will be many exciting reveals ahead!”

Isonzo is the third game in the WW1 game series and introduces players to the High Alpine Wars of northeast Italy. Tannenberg revolves around the large-scale mobile warfare found on the Eastern Front, and the game that started it all, Verdun, takes players into fierce close-trench warfare on the Western Front.

Building on the solid, well-versed foundation of the WW1 game series, Isonzo combines the intensity of Verdun with the scale of Tannenberg. A complete feature revamp, including an all-new historically based game mode, opens up new horizons in the Alps.

Authentic high-altitude combat

Precisely modeled weapons, uniforms and sound effects immerse players in WW1 battlefields. From trench designs to important landmarks, everything Isonzo has been recreated from historical sources, from films and diaries to contemporary photos of battlefields taken on research trips. The new Offensive game mode challenges players to lead a charge across stunning Italian landscapes or prepare for defense on dynamic battlefields. The tactical situation can change at any time!

Choose your roles and gear carefully to respond to battlefield situations. Sniper enemy Engineers from the hillside to prevent them from cutting lines, use rifle grenades to clear enemy strongholds across the river, or call in an officer’s artillery fire. This is a battle for the fate of the nation, and both sides will unleash their vast arsenal. Players will handle everything from bayonet and machine guns to mortars and rifle grenades. If that doesn’t work, you can call for support with heavy artillery, bombardment, or lethal poison gas.

World War I on the Italian front has become a reality and has risen to unexpected heights! But remember. It is the enemy, not the mountain, that we conquer.
